Book Release: The Filmmakers Bible

Vol 1: CAMERA & LIGHTING

Filmmaking used to be a guarded world, expensive gear, hidden techniques, and a “you’re not one of us” attitude. That era is dead. This book is built for the new generation of filmmakers: creators who

shoot on whatever they have, think fast, problem-solve harder, and refuse to wait for permission.

Inside, you’ll find the real, practical knowledge you actually use on set. No recycled textbook jargon. No film-school theory that never survives the chaos of a real shoot. Just the truth about cameras, lighting,

storytelling, movement, directing actors, staying calm under pressure, and solving problems when everything hits the fan.

This book is the shortcut we all wish we had starting out.

Vol 2: SOUND, MOVEMENT & POST-PRODUCTION

Sound, movement, and post-production were once treated as separate worlds, specialist domains wrapped in jargon, expensive tools, and the idea that you had to earn your way in. That thinking is finished. Today’s filmmakers work fast, adapt constantly, and understand that every decision, how something sounds, how it moves, how it’s cut, is part of the same language.

This book focuses on the parts of filmmaking that actually make images feel alive. Capturing sound that holds attention, moving the camera with intent, and shaping the story in post without hiding behind effects or pre-sets. No theory that collapses under pressure. Just practical knowledge that survives real shoots, real deadlines, and real mistakes.

This is how films stop feeling accidental and start feeling deliberate.

Workshops, Masterclasses and Tradeshows

Gimbals and Movement in Film with Tilta @ Goldsmiths University

I delivered an in-depth, hands-on masterclass at Goldsmiths, University of London, in collaboration with Tilta, centred around practical camera movement and real-world use of their support systems including the Float, Ring system, dual-handle configurations, and standard gimbal setups. We started with a theory session focused on why these tools exist, when to use them, and how choosing the right setup directly affects movement quality and storytelling. This covered core movement principles, balance and settings, and common mistakes that limit performance.

The session then moved into a practical workshop with the class split into four groups. Each group was assigned a different piece of kit, either the Float, Ring, dual-hand grip, or a bare gimbal, and tasked with shooting short movement sequences. We finished by reviewing the footage together as a class, where I gave live, direct feedback on technique, intention, and problem-solving, highlighting what worked, what didn’t, and how small adjustments can significantly improve results.

Set Etiquette with Tilta @ Sony DMPC Pinewood

I delivered a theory-based masterclass at Digital Motion Picture Centre at Pinewood Studios, in collaboration with Sony, focused on professional set etiquette and on-set conduct. The session broke down how real film sets actually function, from crew hierarchy and communication to understanding your role, reading the room, and knowing when to step forward or stay out of the way.

The class centred on practical realities rather than theory for theory’s sake, covering behaviour that builds trust, avoids friction, and keeps productions running smoothly. It was designed to give students a clear understanding of how to conduct themselves on professional sets, how to earn respect quickly, and how small decisions in attitude and awareness can directly affect whether you get hired again.

Tradeshow Masterclasses with Digital Foto @ The IBC Tradeshow 2025

I worked with Digital Foto at their Amsterdam trade show this year, delivering a series of lighting and stabilisation masterclasses throughout the event. The sessions focused on practical application, helping filmmakers understand how to shape light effectively, choose the right stabilisation tools, and apply both in real shooting environments rather than controlled demos.

Alongside the masterclasses, a key part of the role was engaging directly with customers, offering guidance on equipment choices and workflows, and gathering real-world feedback from working creatives. This open dialogue played an important role in informing product development and refinement, ensuring future tools and solutions are shaped by how they are actually used on set.

Gimbals and Movement in Film with Tilta @ CVP Fitzrovia, London

I delivered a hands-on camera movement masterclass with CVP at their Fitzrovia, London location, aimed at giving first-time attendees a clear and practical introduction to professional camera support systems. We began with a focused theory session explaining why these tools exist, when to use them, and how choosing the right setup affects movement, stability, and storytelling. The emphasis was on understanding principles rather than memorising settings or specs.

Following the theory, the class moved straight into practical, hands-on work. Attendees spent time with different setups, including gimbals, ring systems, and dual-handle configurations, learning how each rig behaves and how to control it through body position and movement. The session was intentionally built around experience and repetition, allowing everyone to build confidence with the equipment through use rather than review.

Tradeshow Masterclasses with Tilta @ The BSC Tradeshow 2025

I worked alongside Tilta at the BSC Expo in London, delivering hands-on masterclasses and practical guidance throughout the event. I spent time with filmmakers at all levels, breaking down equipment choices, demonstrating real-world setups, and explaining when and how to use different systems effectively on set. The focus was on clarity and application rather than specs, helping people understand how the tools behave in practice and how to choose the right solution for the job rather than the most complicated one.

Solo Shooting and Working on film sets with IRIX @ Leeds University

I delivered an in-depth masterclass on solo shooting and working within a professional film set environment at University of Leeds, in collaboration with IRIX. The session focused on how to operate effectively as a one-person crew while still approaching each decision with a professional, department-level mindset. We covered planning, prioritisation, and making smart creative choices when time, crew, and resources are limited, without compromising image quality or storytelling.

The class also explored the transition from solo shooting to larger film sets, breaking down crew structure, communication, and on-set etiquette. Emphasis was placed on understanding your role within a team, knowing when to take initiative, and how to integrate smoothly into established workflows. The goal was to help students move confidently between working alone and working as part of a crew, with a clear understanding of expectations, efficiency, and creative responsibility.

Masterclass in Mastering Stabilisation with DF @ Westerpark Studios, Amsterdam

I delivered a specialist workshop at Westerpark Studios in Amsterdam, focused on mastering professional stabilisation systems with particular emphasis on the Thanos Pro series. The session broke down real-world setup, tuning, and operating techniques, helping operators understand how these systems behave under load and how to get consistent, controlled movement in demanding shooting conditions.

The workshop also generated valuable, practical feedback from working operators, which directly contributed to the development of the Thanos Pro Cine Elite, including the new ISO Elastic system. This collaborative process helped refine performance, comfort, and response, ensuring the system evolved based on real-world use rather than theory alone.

Tradeshow Masterclasses with Digital Foto @ The IBC Tradeshow 2024

I worked with Digital Foto at the IBCAmsterdam during 2024, with a focus on industry-facing communication rather than classroom-led teaching. The role centred on representing their products through interviews and discussions for magazines, online publications, and news channels, offering clear, experience-led insight into how the equipment performs in real production environments.

The conversations covered practical use cases, design philosophy, and how the tools fit into modern filmmaking workflows, translating technical features into real-world benefits. This work helped bridge the gap between product development and the end user, ensuring the messaging was grounded in hands-on experience and relevant to working professionals as well as emerging filmmakers.
